Over the past few months, space and access were added to the George Henry White Memorial Health and Education Center through the construction of a back deck, the handicap ramp, and the painting of both.
The deck was first completed, thanks to Mr. Marvin White and Mr. Lavarr Jones. This replaced the deteriorated back porch, and creates some outdoor activity space for the facility, along with benches around the perimeter to create a natural meeting space.
Mr. John Smith, a retired local painter with over 50 years of experience painting in the Bladen and Columbus County communities, painted the deck to keep it protected against weathering and erosion. He has also done some painting in the interior of the GHW Center.
After Bayleaf Builders completed their amazing one-day construction of a sturdy handicap ramp, Mr. Smith painted it to match the deck, adding protection and "curb appeal." The sturdy ramp and deck are now safe from the elements, and will serve the community for many years to come.
It's amazing to see this project take shape--week by week! Our last big need is HVAC, so please, everyone try to find a way to help us get this last big install done, and get the center operational!
