Ms. Betty White Washington, who is the great-great niece of George Henry White and a native of Greenville, NC. She taught U.S. history at the high school level in Kinston, NC.
Dr. David C. Dennard, Director of African American studies at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, and Director of the ECU Institute for Historical and Cultural Research. His research interests center on the religious life and traditions of African Americans in the Old South.
Dr. John H. Haley is professor emeritus of history at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and author of Charles N. Hunter and Race Relations in North Carolina (UNC Press, 1987). He was also a member of the 1898 Wilmington Race Riot Commission, established in 2000 by the N. C. General Assembly to develop a historical record of the event.
Dr. Al -Tony Gilmore is Historian and Archivist Emeritus of the National Education Association, and has also served as a Professor of History at Howard University and The University of Maryland, College Park, as well as Visiting Scholar of History at The George Washington University. He is the author of 4 books including The National Impact of Jack Johnson (used as the framework for Ken Burn’s PBS documentary, “Unforgiveable Blackness”), and he was a consultant for the PBS series “American Lives”, produced by Harvard scholar, Henry Skip Gates.
Dr. Benjamin Justesen, Historian and Author of two books on the life of George H. White: “George Henry White: An Even Chance in the Race of Life” (2001) and “In his own words: The Writings, Speeches, and Letters of GHW”(2004)
